What affects the price of the frame?
Four things drive the cost of any framing job:
The bigger the piece, the more materials are required, more moulding, more mat board, more glass, more backing. Size is the single biggest factor in the price of a frame.

Standard glass is the most affordable option. UV-protective, anti-reflective, and conservation-grade glass all add to the cost, but they also add meaningful protection. For anything valuable or irreplaceable, the additional cost of better glass is almost always worth it.
Single or double mats, linen mats, wide gallery-style mats, these all affect the price. Conservation-grade mat boards (which we use for all pieces that warrant it) cost more than standard options, but they're the right choice for anything you want to last.

It's the question everyone wants answered before they come in, and we completely understand why. So here's an honest guide to how framing is priced, what affects the cost, and roughly what to expect for common jobs.
The short answer: custom framing is priced by the job, not off a price list. But that doesn't mean it has to be a mystery.
Why does custom framing cost more than a store frame?
It's a fair question, and one worth answering honestly.
A store-bought frame is a standardised product, mass-produced, in a fixed size, with materials chosen to hit a price point rather than protect what's inside. Custom framing is the opposite: made to the exact dimensions of your piece, with materials chosen specifically for what you're framing and where it's going.
The difference isn't just aesthetic. The materials in a cheap store frame, acidic backing boards, non-UV glass, can actively damage your artwork over time. Custom framing, done properly, protects your piece for decades.
